Upgrade Dynatrace Extension

This guide covers routine patch/minor upgrades of the Dynatrace extension package.

  • Compatible new extension ZIP for your ActiveGate OS
  • Dynatrace permissions to upload and edit extension configurations
  • ActiveGate group identified for rollout
  • Maintenance window long enough for package swap and verification

Before upgrading:

  • Open current extension configuration in Dynatrace
  • Capture key settings (credentials source, enabled features, intervals, tenant/token fields)
  • Keep previous ZIP/package reference so rollback is fast
  1. Download the new patch/minor extension package.
  2. Upload the new ZIP in Dynatrace.
  3. Apply/update configuration on the target ActiveGate group.
  4. Verify extension health and ingestion.

Get the proper Linux/Windows package from the project release channel used by your team.

In Dynatrace:

  1. Go to Extensions -> Manage -> Upload custom extension.
  2. Upload the newer ZIP.
  3. Confirm the extension is available in the extension list.
  • Open the extension configuration.
  • Re-check settings captured earlier.
  • Save configuration for the intended ActiveGate group.
  • Extension status shows Running.
  • Data resumes in Dynatrace Logs.
  • If needed, inspect ActiveGate extension logs.

For baseline setup details and log paths, see Installation.

If the upgraded package fails validation or runtime checks:

  1. Re-apply the previous known-good extension package.
  2. Re-attach the previous configuration values.
  3. Confirm status is Running and ingestion is restored.
