Upgrade Dynatrace Extension
This guide covers routine patch/minor upgrades of the Dynatrace extension package.
Prerequisites
Section titled “Prerequisites”- Compatible new extension ZIP for your ActiveGate OS
- Dynatrace permissions to upload and edit extension configurations
- ActiveGate group identified for rollout
- Maintenance window long enough for package swap and verification
Capture Current Configuration
Section titled “Capture Current Configuration”Before upgrading:
- Open current extension configuration in Dynatrace
- Capture key settings (credentials source, enabled features, intervals, tenant/token fields)
- Keep previous ZIP/package reference so rollback is fast
Upgrade Procedure
Section titled “Upgrade Procedure”- Download the new patch/minor extension package.
- Upload the new ZIP in Dynatrace.
- Apply/update configuration on the target ActiveGate group.
- Verify extension health and ingestion.
1) Download newer package
Section titled “1) Download newer package”Get the proper Linux/Windows package from the project release channel used by your team.
2) Upload package
Section titled “2) Upload package”In Dynatrace:
- Go to Extensions -> Manage -> Upload custom extension.
- Upload the newer ZIP.
- Confirm the extension is available in the extension list.
3) Apply/update configuration
Section titled “3) Apply/update configuration”- Open the extension configuration.
- Re-check settings captured earlier.
- Save configuration for the intended ActiveGate group.
4) Health and log checks
Section titled “4) Health and log checks”- Extension status shows Running.
- Data resumes in Dynatrace Logs.
- If needed, inspect ActiveGate extension logs.

Quick Rollback
Section titled “Quick Rollback”If the upgraded package fails validation or runtime checks:
- Re-apply the previous known-good extension package.
- Re-attach the previous configuration values.
- Confirm status is Running and ingestion is restored.
